By definition, a civil war indicates at the very least differing views....


otherwise there would have been political compromises and no war. At the beginning, what Lincoln and the Republicans viewed as preserving the union, the seceding states viewed as an act of independence. Not passing judgement 150 years after the fact, but both sides were certain of their course. We are still fighting that war today, metaphorically speaking, and it is a waste of time.
